跟"教师""教员"不同。"教师""教员"是职业名称,仅指担任教学工作的专职人员;"老师"是称谓词,适用范围宽泛,可用来称呼其他行业的各类专业人员。"老师"可以接受表人的名词或人称代词的限定,如"小王的老师""她的老师";"教师"不能这样用,不能说"小王的教师""她的教师"。

“老师”和“先生”都可指教师。“老师”用得更为普通,从幼儿园到高等学府,对教师都可称“老师”(包括当面称呼)。“先生”较特殊,只用于某些高等学府,也可以当面称呼。
Both 老师 and 先生 mean “teacher." 老师 is more common. Form elementary school through college, teachers can all be referred to as "老师" (this also includes addressing a teacher face-to-face). 先生 is more restricted in its usage, and can only be used in universities and colleges; it can also be used when addressing a teacher face-to-face.
“老师”还用于社会上对一些资历较深的文化人的称呼。
老师is also used to address older and experienced intellectuals.
“先生”则用于社会上男性人士的称呼。
先生 is used to address or refer to a man.
(1)他是我的小学老师。
(2)张老师写过很多精彩的评论。
(3)这位是李先生,在外贸公司工作。
(4)请问先生贵姓?
“先生”还可以用来称呼别人的丈夫或对人称自己的丈夫。
先生 can also be used to address someone else’s husband or to refer to one’s own husband.
(5)那是李女士,旁边那位是她先生。
