依旧, 照旧 and 依然 yījiù, zhàojiù and yīrán
All three words are adverbs meaning “same as before”. 1. 依旧 and 照旧 mean “after a certain change in circumstances the thing remains unchanged.” The two words are interchangeable, but 照旧 is colloquial. (1) 成名以后,他依旧(照旧)过着深居简出的生活,丝毫不被外界打扰。
2. When 照旧 means “as before,” it cannot be replaced by 依旧. (2) 故障已被排除,施工照旧进行。 (3) ——今天想吃点什么呀? ——照旧! (4) 离开这么多年,家乡风景依旧(依然)这么美。 (5) 如今,我依然(依旧)那天发生的事。
3. 依然 is mostly used in literary works and so often appears in the following set phrases to show no change. 依旧 cannot replace it .
