售, 出售 and 卖 shòu, chūshòu and mài
The three words all mean “to sell”, 卖 is the most colloquial, and the other two are more literary. Since 出售 is disyllabic, its syllabic collocation is different. In the following colloquial sentences, 卖 is used. (1) 那里卖的东西又便宜又好。 (2) 这件衣服现在卖多少钱?
卖 can be used in an abstract meaning. (3) 他是卖苦力的,靠力气吃饭。 (4) 我是不会卖友求荣的。
售 is literary. (5) 本店存书不多,售(卖)完为止。 (6) 我们去售票处买票吧。
出售 is even more literary and mostly applied to big batches of merchandise. It is usually in collocation with disyllabic words. (7) 本店商品,一律降价出售。 (8) 这个国家以在国际上出售矿石著称。
In addition, 卖 can also mean “not to spare”. The other two words have no such usage. (9) 他干活很卖力。
这三个动词都表示在交易中用物换取钱。“卖”最口语化,“出售”和“售”则较书面化。“出售”是双音节词,因此在音节搭配上也有特殊性。以下口语的与子中,一般用“卖”。 “卖”也可以用于抽象意义。 “售”较书面化。 “出售”更为书面化,多用于大宗商品,在音节上多与双音节词搭配。 另外,“卖”还可以表示不吝惜等,其他两个词没有这种用法。
