这两个词都可表示为了达到目的而竭尽全力去做。
Both words mean to fight hard in order to achieve one’s goal.
(1)多少年来，他为了达到理想而不断奋斗（斗争）着。
（2）为了明天，让我们不断奋斗（斗争）吧！

但“奋斗”多表示单方面的努力。
But 奋斗 stresses one’s own effort.
(3)他为民族解放事业奋斗了近二十年。
（4）为家庭，为儿女奋斗了大半辈子，他现在只想停下来歇一歇。

“斗争”则表示对立的双方互相较量、冲突，如“政治斗争”、“阶级斗争”、“民族斗争”等。
Whereas 斗争 stresses the struggle between the two opposite sides, e.g. 政治斗争（political struggle）, 阶级斗争（class struggle）, 民族斗争（national struggle）.
(5)两家公司正在为争夺市场的霸主地位而进行着激烈的斗争。
（6）是坚持，还是放弃？他心里的两种念头在不断斗争着。
这时不能用“奋斗”。
奋斗 cannot be used this way in such situations.

表现“双方”（自己对自己的弱点）的较量，同样不能用“奋斗”。
（7）他正和自己的疾病做斗争。
When this involves “two sides” (one against one’s weakness), 奋斗 cannot be used either.
还可以说“进行斗争”，“奋斗”则不能这样用。
We can say 进行斗争，but 奋斗 cannot be be used in this way.
