常 and 常常
cháng and chángcháng
Both words indicate that an action, behavior or state occurs repeatedly within short intervals.
(1) 我们常（常常）来往。
(2) 他常常（常）迟到。
The two words are mostly interchangeable. In the written form, if it is followed by a monosyllabic word; 常 is mostly used.
(3) 环境常会随着时间的变化而变化。
(4) 知足常乐是他健康的秘诀之一。
The negative form is usually 不常.
(5) 她最近不常来。
(6) 他一个人住，儿女都不常回家。
这两个词都表示动作、行为或状态的重复出现、发生，间隔较短。两个词一般可以互换。在书面语中，如果后面是单音节词，多用“常”。否定式多用“不常”。
