损害 and 损坏 sǔnhài and sǔnhuài
Both 损害 and 损坏 are verbs meaning damage. The difference is 损害 is applied to abstract things, while 损坏 is applied to concrete things.
1. 损害 (1) 你不能富了自己,却损害了大众的利益。 (2) 长期睡眠不足严重损害了你的健康。 (3) 这件绯闻使他的名誉受到了损害。
2.损坏 (1) 损坏公物的是要赔偿的。 (2) 政府出资重建灾民们被损坏的房屋。
损坏 is more literary, usually applied to loss as a whole. As to concrete things in colloquial language, 弄坏, 破坏 are used.
“损害”和“损坏”都表示使之有所损失或破坏,不同之处是:“损害”用于抽象事物,而“损坏”用于具体事物。 “损坏”较书面化,一般指整体的损失;口语中具体的东西一般用“弄坏”、“破坏”等。
