摆, 搁 and 放
bǎi, gē and fàng
All three words mean "to place something in a certain location".
1. 摆 emphasizes the presentation and the arrangement of the objects; 搁 is distinctively colloquial and most popular in the northern regions of China; 放 can be used both casually and formally.
(1) 桌子上摆着几本书。
(2) 各大商场的柜台里已经摆出了许多今年的新款。
If the sense of display is not stressed, 搁 and 放 will also do.
(3) 这东西应该放（搁/摆）哪儿？
2. 搁 also means " to put aside ". In the following two sentence, 放 is also used, but 摆 will not do.
(1) 这几个苹果搁（放）桌子上好几天了。
(2) 这件事都搁（放）了很久了。
3. 搁 and 放 also mean "to add to".
(1) 应该再往这道菜里放（搁）些盐。
(2) 还要再往盆里放（搁）热水吗？
1.这三个词都有（把东西）置于某处的意思。“摆”侧重于陈列、排列，“搁”在北方比较通用，比较口语化，有时含“留置”的意思。“放”在书面口语都通用。
如果不需要强调排列或陈列，上两句用“搁”或“放”也是可以的。
2.“搁”还有“搁置”的意思。
3. “搁”和“放”还有“添加”的意思。

摆 means to place something in a certain spot or to display something for viewing. It emphasizes the presentation and the arrangement of objects. It is extended to mean stating facts or reasons one by one, e.g. 摆事实. 摆 also means to sway or wave, e.g. 摆手.
