14 ー16世纪发源于意大利，后来相继在西欧各国发生的文化革新运动，是西欧封建社会向资本主义过渡这一历史变革在意识形态上的反映。新兴的资产阶级以复兴古代希腊、罗马文化，宣扬"人文主义"为旗号，对腐朽的封建制度和宗教神学进行批判，摆脱教会对人的思想的束缚。文艺复兴给西欧国家带来科学、文学、艺术的繁荣，为资产阶级登上政治舞台制造了舆论。
