最近 vs. 近来
zuìjìn vs. jìnlái
Both 最近 and 近来 are times. 最近 indicates the time around the present (a few days, months, even a few years). It can be placed before an approximate time, or used independently.
(1) 最近几天天气不太好。
(2) 最近几年你怎么没和我联系啊？
(3) 我最近去了一趟云南。
When used independently, 最近 indicates a relatively short period of time.
近来 indicates "the short period of time up to the present", and is usually used independently.
(4) 你近来可好？
(5) 近来我身体不太舒服。
(6) 他近来比较忙。
“最近”、“近来”都是时间名词。“最近”指现在前后不久的时光（一两天至几个月、几年都可以），可以放在具体的约略时间之前，也可以单用。
“最近”单用时表示的时间段比较短。
“近来”则指过去不久的一段时间（到现在为止），常单用。
