Preposition as conveyors of place and position
A preposition is used before an object, noun, pronoun or a phrase, to form a phrase that describes a place, position, direction, method, time, object, aim, or the passive voice. The normal preposition conveys both place and position: for example “在” zài, “于” yú (often in formal writing),“从” cóng, “自” zì, “打” dǎ, “由” yóu (meaning " from") , “朝” cháo, “向” xiàng, “到” dào, “往” wǎng (meaning "to" or "toward") , and “沿着” yánzhe (meaning "along"). These words are often placed before the location or position word. These prepositional phrases are used as adverbial adjuncts. (1) 他从东边走来。 (2) 警方于某商场抓获犯罪嫌疑人一名。 (3) 我打学校来。 (4) 这条公路由河北通往山东。 (5) 他朝(向,往,到)那边去了。 (6) 沿着这条路一直走,就到我家了。
