The adverb indicate limits

An adverb is used to modify the adjective or verb as an adverbial adjunct, it should be put before them. Verbs or even nouns ending with character "地" and functioning as adverbs remain to be regarded as adjectives. A part of adverbs can indicate limits, such as "都", "统统", "一共", "总共", "共", "一起", "一块", "一同", "一齐","一道", "一概", "一味", "净", "只", "就", "仅仅", "独", "唯独", "单", "光",and so on.

e.g.(1)我们都是学生。 (2)树上一共有九只鸟。(3)我们一同去上学。 (4)你不要一味表扬自己。 (5)我们都在,唯独他不见了。
