钻研 vs. 研究
zuānyán vs. yánjiū
Both verbs mean “to study or research,” but they have different scope of usage and emphasis.
1. 钻研 meaning “to study intensively,” the object of which is science, technique, learning, etc.
(1) 多年来，他刻苦钻研维修技术，终于成了一名出色的维修工。
(2) 做学问就应该有钻研精神。
(3) 这些年来，他潜心钻研古文，如今在学术上取得了一定成就。
2. 研究
1) Meaning “research of the truth, nature, rules, etc.”
(1) 有关专家研究指出，市场需求过旺是造成物价上涨的主要原因。
(2) 他是一个研究所的研究人员。
(3) 他研究过《孙子兵法》。
2) Meaning “to discuss, to talk over matters, problems, etc.”
(4) 我们正在研究晚上去哪吃饭呢。
(5) 这件事得让策划组的人好好研究研究。
两个动词都有思索、探求的意思，但使用范围和语意轻重程度等有所不同。
1. 钻研指深入研究，其对象通常是科学、技术、学问等。
2. 研究
1）指对事物的真相、性质、规律进行探索。
2）指对事情、问题等进行商量，讨论。
