称赞 and 赞美 chēngzàn and zànměi
Both words mean "to give praise using spoken language and written words." 称赞 can be used to commend ordinary good points or advantages, while 赞美 is used with more outstanding persons or things and is more formal. (1) 老师称赞他学习刻苦。 (2) 妈妈称赞他能干。
When sentences are used to convey both important and trivial things, both words can be used. (3) 这幅画得到了很多人的赞美(称赞)。 (4) 大家都称赞(赞美)他的机智勇敢。
When sentences are used to convey important things, 赞美 is used. (5) 他写了一篇文章来赞美祖国的大好河山。
这两个词都表示用语言、文字夸奖。“称赞”可用于一般的好处或优点,“赞美”用于较突出的人或事物,也更书面化。 当句子所指可大可小时,两个词都可以用。 当指较大的事时,应用“赞美”。
