捕, 逮捕 and 捉 bǔ, dàibǔ and zhuō
捕, 逮捕 and 捉 are all verbs but they have different usages.
1. To mean "to arrest," 捕 and 逮捕 are often used; 捉 is informal; 被捕, 捉奸 are both common phrases. (1) 他因涉嫌敲诈被捕(逮捕)了。 (2) 警方已经出动了警力去逮捕(捕/捉)逃犯了。 (3) 他在公车上偷窃的时候被捉了个正着。
2. 捉 and 捕 can be used to mean “to hunt for prey”; the former is more casual.捕鱼,猫捉老鼠 are common phrases, e.g.: (1) 这是一个好天气,渔民们纷纷出海捕鱼。 (2) 猫晚上捉老鼠,白天睡觉。 (3) 这里的野兔太狡猾了,你根本就没有办法捉(捕)到它们。
3. 捉 also means “to grasp with one's hand” (archaic), such as 捉笔("to hold a pen"), 捉刀 (" to write an article, etc. for somebody else, to ghost write"), 捉襟见肘 ("to pull together one's lapels to conceal raggedness, only to expose one’s elbows"), etc.
