预先 vs. 事先 yùxiān vs. shìxiān
Both the two words mean “before an event or action happens.” They are adverbials and interchangeable. (1) 为了应对突发情况,命题老师事先(预先)为这次考试准备了两套试题。 (2) 下次出门记得事先(预先)检查东西带齐了没有。 (3) 她预先(事先)告诉过我了。 (4) 因为知道你要来,我预先(事先)帮你安排好了。
预先 stresses the conscious preparation before a thing happens, while 事先 has no such meaning. Therefore, for unpredictable things, 预先 cannot be used. (5) 他的病来得非常突然,事先没有一点征兆。 (6) 我事先不知道你要来。
In addition, 事先 is a noun and can be used as a attributive with 的, while 预先 is an adverb and can only be used as an adverbial. (7) 你事先的想法是这样的吗? (8) 这一切其实都是事先的安排。
两个词的意思都是“在事情或行动未发生或进行之前”,在句中常做状语,常可以互换使用。 “预先”着重于事情发生前的有意识的准备,而“事先”则没有这种意思。对于不可预知的事情,不能用“预先”。 “事先”是名词,还可以后面加上“的”,做定语;而“预先”是副词,只能做状语。
