Handwriting tool
Why is there an internet security pop up on Firefox 3 when I select a character from the handwriting tool?
The handwriting tool accesses a different part of the basic nciku service which Firefox 3 detects as a possible security issue. Clicking "Allow" will only let nciku perform this operation and not affect your security settings for other websites.
Quick Search
I use default search mode more than the other two. But every time I use another search mode, I have to change it back to the default manually.
Just uncheck the option "Save the latest nciku search mode for further search" in the settings window, and your search mode will always restore to the default automatically after you perform a search in any mode.
Tooltip Dictionary
Sometimes I find it annoying to have the tooltip pop up every time my mouse is over a Chinese character. Is there a different way?
You can check the option "Only show tooltips while I hold the Ctrl key" in the preferences window.
Why does the Tooltip sometimes give me more words (entries) than I want?
When you are using the "hover" mode, the program only knows the position of your mouse cursor – it doesn't know exactly what word of how many characters you want to look up. So, it lists all possible words starting with the character you are pointing at, up to a maximum of 5 characters.
I don't like to hear the pronunciation every time I look up and get a word (entry). Can I disable it?
You can uncheck the "Play Pronunciation Automatically" option in the quick settings menu of the Toolbar to disable this option. There is also a hotkey ("Ctrl + Alt + P" by default) to help you quickly enable or disable this feature.
Settings
What does the option "Save the latest nciku search mode for further search" mean?
With this option checked, your search mode for the next search you do will be the same as the last one. When unchecked, your search mode will revert to default after every search.
